The International Working Group (IWG) on Women & Sport is the world’s largest network dedicated to advancing gender equity and equality in sport, physical education and physical activity. It is fully aligned to the 17x United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.
Established in 1994, the IWG advocates and runs programmes globally year-round. It developed and remains guardian of the Brighton plus Helsinki 2014 Declaration, which now has the commitment of nearly 600 signatories worldwide. Every four years it stages the IWG World Conference on Women & Sport.
The IWG is governed by the volunteer IWG Global Executive. The IWG Secretariat 2018 – 2022 is held by Aotearoa New Zealand. The IWG Secretariat & World Conference 2022 – 2026 quadrennial will be hosted by the United Kingdom. On August 5 2022, we opened a circle of leadership where the IWG UK took over Secretariat leadership globally. IWG New Zealand will continue to lead the delivery of the 8th IWG World Conference on Women & Sport through to its staging in Auckland this November.
