Captains Lunch 2020

Celebrating Female Leadership in Sport and Business

Staged in partnership by:

** SPECIAL NOTICE **

Posted: 31 March 2020

The upcoming Captains Lunch at Eden Park in Auckland on 8 May 2020 has been postponed, due to New Zealand’s current COVID-19 lock-down.

Rachel Froggatt, IWG Secretary General, said: “The COVID-19 pandemic is an unprecedented situation and we very much hope that you, your family, and colleagues are all well and safe in this very challenging time.

As partners, WISPA and the Trans – Tasman Business Circle firmly believe that the Captains Lunch is an important dialogue, celebrating women in sport and business with the focus on bringing sport and business communities together in one room, to meet and connect in person. Because of this, we have agreed to postpone to a later date rather than cancel or host virtually.

At this stage it is hard to predict when business will return to ‘normal’. Given the popularity of this event, which was already closing in on “sold-out”, we currently intend to hold all registrations to make sure everyone’s place at the event is secure. Further ticket sales are now on hold until a later date and refunds are available if needed.

We very much look forward to connecting with our community in-person once it is safe to do so.”

Following a sell-out success in 2019, the Captains Lunch will return for a second year, bigger and better than ever! Over 300 sport and business leaders are expected to gather in celebration of female leadership in sport and business. The original event was set to feature Raelene Castle ONZM and the Hon Grant Robertson, both of whom we hope to still have with us when the new date is set. The tables will hosted by an array of “Captains”, you can meet them aquí.

Make sure you join us at the second annual Captains Lunch – celebrating female leadership in sport and business!

Following a sell-out success in 2019, the Captains Lunch is returning for its second year, bigger and better than ever!

This year, the lunch will mark ‘2 years to go’ until Aotearoa New Zealand hosts the 8th IWG World Conference, 5 – 8 May 2022. The world’s largest meeting dedicated to gender equity in sport and physical activity, more than 1,200 global and local delegates will attend over four days. It is being designed and staged by Mujeres en el deporte Aotearoa (WISPA), delivery agent for the International Working Group (IWG) on Women & Sport Secretariat & Conference 2018-2022.

Over 300 sport and business leaders are expected to gather at the Captains Lunch, which celebrates female leadership in sport and business. Funds raised will go toward WISPA, to support its advocacy and research in Aotearoa New Zealand, and assist its delivery of the IWG strategic plan and the World Conference.

Tables will be hosted by an array of “Captains” from across sport and recreation in Aotearoa New Zealand (see below). This will include a mix of female athletes, coaches, leaders and male allies for change. Raelene Castle ONZM and the Hon Grant Robertson will give addresses, with Raelene also taking part in a Q&A.
