New Zealand Borders fully opening on 31 July 2022

  • New Zealand’s border is reopening to all tourists and visa holders from 11:59pm 31 July 2022.
  • All other visa categories — including those on visitor and student visas can apply to enter New Zealand from anywhere in the world from 31 July 2022.

The New Zealand government recently announced borders will now reopen from 31 July 2022, four months before the 8th IWG World Conference on Women & Sport.

This is great news for those who have been planning to travel to be in person for the conference but wanted certainty around entering and leaving the country. Some restrictions apply to unvaccinated travellers and for more information on who can enter New Zealand now, please see the government website here.

Visa waiver countries
New Zealand has agreements with a long list of countries that allows people to travel into the country without a visa. If you belong to a visa waiver country, and plan to be with us in person at the conference, you will need to hold an NZeTA (New Zealand Electronic Travel Authority). To find out more information about an NZeTA, click here.

Visa letter of support
If you require a letter of support as part of your visa application. A letter will be issued after you have registered and confirmed payment to participate in the conference.

Non-visa waiver countries
Conference participants travelling from non-visa waiver countries will need to apply for a visa to enter New Zealand.  We encourage you to apply for a visitor’s visa so you can enjoy your trip beyond the conference. For more information on preparing a visa application, visit the New Zealand Immigration website.
