Nau mai, haere mai: welcome to the 8th IWG World Conference on Women and Sport
Tāmaki Makaurau, Aotearoa | Auckland, New Zealand | 5-8 May 2022
Kei aku Rangatira, tēnā koutou katoa,
[to my esteemed friends, greetings]
Kia ora. Hello.
In May 2018, over 1,200 global experts on gender equity in sport and physical activity gathered in Gaborone, Botswana, for the 7th IWG World Conference.
Delegates came from around the world, including from all levels of sport and physical activity, academia, government, world agencies and NGOs, business, media, plus many sporting participants – yet again becoming the largest conference of its kind in the world. The shared passion for positive global change was clear, as we all work together toward securing equity of opportunity for women and girls to participate, compete and build careers in sport and physical activity.
Aotearoa New Zealand became host nation for the International Working Group (IWG) on Women and Sport Secretariat & Conference 2018 – 2022 in September 2018, with Women in Sport Aotearoa New Zealand appointed global delivery agent. During our time we are continuing IWG’s global advocacy and for 2022 itself, we have one simple ambition: make the 8th IWG World Conference on Women and Sport, the biggest and best, ever. That’s where you come in.
Make sure you keep coming back to the website to read more and to register your interest in attending, so you can receive the latest delegate updates.
We look forward to welcoming you all to Tāmaki Makaurau, Auckland, and online in May 2022.
Nāku noa, nā
Raewyn Lovett ONZM, IWG Co-Chair – New Zealand
