Women in Sport Aotearoa, acting in its capacity as the International Working Group (IWG) on Women & Sport Secretariat 2018 – 2022, is excited to announce that we will officially launch the 8th IWG World Conference on Women & Sport at a digital event on Friday 4 September, from 12.30 – 14.00 New Zealand Time, in partnership with Trans-Tasman Business Circle SportsConnect

In a world still deeply affected by COVID-19, Women in Sport Aotearoa is pleased to launch the first ever physical-digital hybrid IWG World Conference, on behalf of the International Working Group (IWG) on Women & Sport. We are inviting you to join us on the journey toward and beyond Auckland, May 2022.

This exciting digital launch will feature:

  • A live address from the Hon Grant Robertson, New Zealand Minister of Sport and Recreation
  • A recorded keynote from well-known Australasian sports administrator, Raelene Castle ONZM (Ngāpuhi)
  • A live panel discussion with audience Q&A moderated by former New Zealand Black Ferns rugby player and TV host Melodie Robinson (Ngāi Tahu) and featuring: the Hon Grant Robertson, along with newly announced Captain of the New Zealand White Ferns cricket team, Sophie Devine, and Haylee Putaranui (Ngāti Maniapoto), Head of Diversity & Inclusion at Fonterra, one of New Zealand’s largest businesses.

Our “Change Inspires Change” short film will also debut. Our new campaign is all about empowering the individual to make positive change for women and girls in sport and physical activity worldwide. It follows a simple premise: every change you make, no matter how small or large, inspires the next, and the next. By sharing your story, you help inspire others to make change. Tune into the digital launch to find out more!

The live digital launch of “Change Inspires Change” was announced following the postponement of our original launch event, the Captains Lunch 2020, which will be staged at a later date following a change to COVID-19 alert levels in Auckland, New Zealand during August. Stay tuned for a new date, as this event will be back, bigger and better than ever! A very special thank you to many of our “Captains” (table hosts), who are still joining us on Friday for the launch!
